Seoul Essentials for K-pop Fans — Transport Cards, Data and Money

Last checked: October 1, 2026

A K-pop trip means a lot of subway rides, a lot of maps, and at least one moment where your phone must be online — at pickup, at a lottery check-in, or when a birthday cafe posts a surprise update. Sort these out before you land.

Transport: T-money or Climate Card?

T-money is the standard rechargeable transport card. It works on buses, subways and many taxis across Korea, not just Seoul. You can buy one at convenience stores and top it up with cash.

Climate Card (기후동행카드) is Seoul's unlimited pass. Short-term versions for visitors are available, and since March 2026 some subway ticket machines accept overseas Visa and Mastercard for buying and charging them.

Which one?

  • Staying in Seoul and riding a lot — concert days, agency buildings, birthday cafes across town → the Climate Card usually works out cheaper.
  • Leaving Seoul (Busan, Incheon venues) or riding only occasionally → T-money is simpler.

Check the current prices and coverage on the official site before you buy; rules for visitors have changed several times.

Staying online

You'll need data for maps, ticket QR codes and fan announcements on X.

  • eSIM: the easiest choice if your phone supports it. Install it before you fly and switch it on when you land.
  • Physical SIM or pocket Wi-Fi: usually picked up at the airport.

Use Naver Map or KakaoMap for directions. Google Maps works for searching places but its walking and transit directions in Korea are limited.

Money

  • International Visa and Mastercard work in most shops, cafes and convenience stores.
  • Carry some cash (won) for T-money top-ups, street food and some small shops.
  • Merch booths at concerts generally take cards, but lines move faster if you know what you want.

Before you fly — checklist

  • Ticket platform account verified with your passport name
  • Fan club membership registered for presales (if your group has one)
  • eSIM or SIM sorted
  • Naver Map or KakaoMap installed
  • Your trip plan saved, with birthday cafes and music shows marked
