FIELD NOTES / 001

A half-day in Seoul. Where do you start?

A day that feels good together, rather than a long checklist.

SIDEQUEST editorial · 9 September 2026

1. Start with time and walking comfort

Agree on a start and finish time, then leave room for transport and food. Remember the walk from the station to the entrance. If someone needs frequent breaks, choose places to rest before adding more attractions.

2. Budget beyond entry fees

Separate transport, food, drinks, activities and optional shopping. A free-entry outing can still cost money. Agree on a comfortable shared limit, and check whether special exhibitions or programmes have separate prices.

3. Pick a route for your circumstances

A slower afternoon, closer together

One photo. One question. No need to rush.

90–120 min · Food & drinks extra

Old Seoul, new conversations

A museum, a palace and a little time travel.

120–150 min · Check exhibition fees

Two perspectives, one little island

A photo walk through greenery and industrial traces.

90–120 min · Transport & snacks extra

Collect a little colour at Seoul Changpowon

Leaves, light and a shared palette—even without flowers.

90–120 min · Check transport & refreshment costs

Read each other’s taste at Buk-Seoul Museum

No right answers. Just a tiny postcard for each other.

90–120 min · Check fees for each exhibition

A tiny time capsule from Amsa-dong

Let everyday life long ago spark a story about yours.

90–120 min · Check admission & activity fees

Seoul Forest and Seonyudo are outdoor walks. Reschedule for unsuitable weather. Jongno combines indoor and outdoor spaces: check the museum programme first and shorten the palace section if needed. None of these routes guarantees live availability.

4. With an international friend, check the practical details

Send the Korean address as well as the venue name, and agree on a specific entrance. An English web page does not guarantee English-speaking staff. For bookable activities, check phone-number requirements, payment and confirmation with the operator.

5. Keep the note a surprise, not the essential details

For a birthday or a thoughtful gesture, add a short personal note. Share the budget, walking effort, preparation and booking details in advance. Save the surprise for your words and the order of discovery, and let your companion reveal the full route if they prefer.
